Axis introduces first fixed dome network camera offering megapixel in MPEG-4

Axis Communications announced today a compact and discreet fixed dome network camera solution delivering superior quality video in full megapixel resolution. AXIS 216MFD Network Cameras are ideal for professional video surveillance in areas where a larger overview or higher level of detail is required, such as retail stores, schools, airports, banks or government buildings. 16MFD Network Cameras are high-performance, megapixel fixed dome solutions delivering more than 3 times higher resolution compared to analogue CCTV cameras, perfect for the identification of objects and persons. In addition, the 1.3 megapixel sensor uses progressive scan, which reduces motion blur in comparison with a traditional PAL/NTSC camera providing interlaced video. AXIS 216MFD Network Cameras uniquely offer MPEG-4 and Motion JPEG video streams in full megapixel resolution, allowing for optimised image quality and bandwidth efficiency. The standard AXIS 216MFD version offers a tamper-resistant plastic cover, suitable for indoor video surveillance, whereas AXIS 216MFD-V features a rugged, vandal-resistant casing with a metal base specifically adapted for indoor environments subject to vandalism. The versatile lens suspension allows for smooth installation and precise adjustment of the cameras’ viewing angle. Other features include two-way audio with the capability to detect and trigger an alarm if the sound is above or below a configurable level. Anders Laurin, Executive Vice President, Corporate Strategy, of Axis Communications AB commented: “AXIS 216MFD Network Cameras, with their unique, compact design and Power over Ethernet support, meet the market’s strong demand for discreet and easy-to-install fixed dome solutions. They also fulfill the market’s need for megapixel resolution providing exceptional image detail, not achievable with analogue CCTV cameras.” Gilles Ortega, Country Manager, Axis Communications, MENA commented: “These two new Axis megapixel fixed dome network cameras provide the perfect solution for demanding indoor professional surveillance applications.  With a 1.3 megapixel sensor delivering superior resolution and progressive scan, for applications where image detail is a mandatory requirement these network cameras need serious consideration.” Axis network cameras offer the market’s most comprehensive set of network capabilities, optimizing the network video solution for security, efficiency and manageability. An example is the IPv6 support, which insures against the growing shortage of IPv4 addresses. AXIS 216MFD Network Cameras are supported by the industry’s largest base of application software through the Axis Application Development Partner program, as well as the AXIS Camera Station video management software. AXIS 216MFD Network Cameras will be available in Q2 through Axis’ distribution channels.
